Can't We All Just Dress Pretty? Posted on 22 Sep 23:04 , 0 comments
Since Kanye West expelled his vision of couture onto the high fashion world it has been rife with controversy. Everyone has weighed in from Ice T "looks like future slave gear to me" to fashion critic Cathy Horyn who said of his designs “This second round of drab, broken-down basics..." and it looks like he can't catch a break.
On the flip side, anyone having paid any amount of attention to West over the years would know that he's not the type to acknowledge his critics. In fact, it is believed that his fashion shows are actually a form of social demonstration. Either way, I think I'd like to see him take a chill pill and bring us some pretty clothes to wear. I do see the appeal in most of his gear - I love minimalist anything and his pieces by themselves look wonderful for dressing up or down. Sometimes West appears to be at odds with himself. Maybe he reveals that to us in his wildly juxtaposed platforms and inopportune times to make statements about the world he sees.
Fashion is art, controversy, functional, love, exciting and edgy. It is truly whatever you want it to be. He will find a strong following for his line or he will come to realize that people just want to feel good in what they wear and adapt.
