Men's Fashion Week (Is Now Over) Posted on 16 Jul 22:47 , 0 comments
I can no longer ignore it. It was Men's Fashion Week in New York! All that comes to mind when I think of it is the Macy's men's store in San Francisco. Lots of button-down shirts in every color of the rainbow. Every pattern, stripe and polka-dot tie on the face of the earth is also well represented there. Floors and floors of shoes, pants, ties, polos, shorts...
But comparing the inaugural men's fashion week with Macy's is probably vastly unfair. Men's Fashion Week shares most of the same elements with the women's event, except it does offer an additional outlet for premier designers. Where typical men's clothing can often take on the variety of a service uniform, it could open up a whole new world of fashion to the American man who wants to devote more time to how he looks outside of a suit and tie. There is evidence of this as men's apparel sales have reportedly increased year over year with no signs of slowing down.
I mentioned right away that I tried to ignore this event, and it isn't because I don't admire a well-dressed man. Women's fashion is truly all-encompassing and engaging enough, but now that Men's Fashion Week is here in the states, we'll just have to make more space in the dressing room.
